The universe of artificial intelligence applications is going through its own Big Bang right now. The release of ChatGPT, Bard, and other consumer-facing AI tools has made the general public aware of how far the technology has evolved. Government agencies at all levels have been pursuing AI applications for years, however – from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the Department of Defense, state and local government to address some of the risks posed by natural disasters, and throughout higher education.
As public awareness grows of AI’s potential and how it may affect them, there still are issues to be resolved. For instance, Executive Order 13960, Promoting the Use of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Government, released in December 2020, laid out nine principles to guide the design, development, acquisition and use of AI by agencies. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in October 2022 released a Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights that adds five principles to guide in the design, use, and deployment to protect the American public in the age of artificial intelligence.
Join us as thought leaders from government, industry and academia discuss how to build ethical and equitable AI, the importance of good data to enhance AI’s trustworthiness, and the growing opportunities for American workers in this new era.
